چکیده

The investigation of allyl cyanide adsorption on Si(111)-737 using high-resolution electron-energy-loss spectroscopy ~HREELS!, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy ~XPS!, and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy ~UPS! reveals a tetra-s binding mode through two @212#-like cycloaddition reactions. The HREELS spectra of chemisorbed monolayer show the absence of CvC, CwN, and C(sp)uH stretching modes coupled with the appearance of CvN stretching mode at ;1590 cm, demonstrating that both the CvC and CwN of allyl cyanide directly participate in binding with the surface to form C—C and CvN bonds, respectively. This binding configuration was further confirmed in our XPS and UPS studies. The imine-containing skeleton formed on the surface can possibly be employed as a molecular template for a further modification of Si surfaces and syntheses in vacuum.

Multiple configurations of N-methylpyrrole binding on Si„111...-7Ã7

The adsorption configurations of N-methylpyrrole on Si(111)-737 were investigated using high-resolution electron energy-loss spectroscopy, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy ~XPS!, scanning tunneling microscopy ~STM!, and density function theory calculations. Compared to physisorbed N-methylpyrrole, chemisorbed molecules present a different vibrational feature at 2886 cm attributable to n@(Si)C-H...

Complex dynamics of the Si„111...-7Ã7 surface: Total-energy calculations

We studied the dynamics of a semi-infinite Si~111!-737 system, using the force-constant matrix obtained from the total-energy calculation based on a nonorthogonal tight-binding Hamiltonian. We modeled the semiinfinite system by merging the optimized surface slab seamlessly onto the bulk to underscore the importance of the system size in obtaining all the relevant surface phonon modes of Si~111!...

Defect formation in Si„111...7Ã7 surfaces due to 200 eV Ar ion bombardment

Surface x-ray diffraction measurements have been made to study defect formation at the atomic level in the near surface region of Si(111)737 surface during low energy ~200 eV! Ar ion bombardment. We have observed the two characteristics of the defects: missing atoms at different layers in the surface region as well as outward strain. We provide calculations that demonstrate how crystal truncati...

Formation of tetra(ethylene oxide) terminated Si-C linked monolayers and their derivatization with glycine: an example of a generic strategy for the immobilization of biomolecules on silicon.

Surface modification with oligo(ethylene oxide) functionalized monolayers terminated with reactive headgroups constitutes a powerful strategy to provide specific coupling of biomolecules with simultaneous protection from nonspecific adsorption on surfaces for the preparation of biorecognition interfaces. To date, oligo(ethylene oxide) functionalized monolayer-forming molecules which can be acti...

DFT computational study of the mechanism of allyl halides carbonylation catalyzed by nickel tetracarbonyl.

A theoretical investigation at the DFT(B3LYP) level on the carbonylation reaction of allyl bromide catalyzed by nickel tetra-carbonyl Ni(CO)(4) is discussed. The computational results show the following: (i) Three main steps characterize the catalytic cycle: (a) an oxidative addition step, (b) a carbonylation step, and (c) a reductive elimination step where the acyl product is obtained and the ...
